Make Karoo Lodge your base whilst you explore the many natural wonders of this very unique region of South Africa. Nowhere will you find a landscape with so many contrasts, rich in geological wonders, and abundant fauna and flora.
 

Not to be missed are the famous heritage sites of the Cango Caves (36 kilometres from Karoo Lodge), Swartberg National Park (including 'Die Hel'/Gamkaskloof), Meiringspoort and the Karoo National Park.  All these attractions are suitable for 4x4, 2x4, adventure motorcycle and mountain bikes.

ART GALLERIES

Home to a number of artists, the Prince Albert Art Gallery is situated on the main road next to the Fransie Pienaar Museum and showcases several local artists' work.

ASTRONOMY

Prince Albert is one of the very best celestial viewing regions in Southern Africa, with cloudless skies and a pollution free atmosphere.

BIRD WATCHING

With more than 200 species of bird to be found, Prince Albert is a paradise for birders and trips can be arranged for bird watching.

MARKETS

Held every Saturday morning next to the Fransie Van Zyl Museum. From Karoo lamb to fruit and vegetables, cheeses, home-made jams and preserves, home baked bread and pickles, the Saturday market has become a tradition of old.

MUSEUM

The Fransie Pienaar Museum offers visitors a glimpse of the cultural and historical past which moulded this beautiful town. The museum collections grow day by day as inhabitants make valuable contributions to the museum in order to preserve the proud heritage of this gem in the Karoo.

HIKING & MOUNTAINEERING

Prince Albert is famous hiking and mountaineering territory and a must for mountain enthusiasts. There are many varied day walks and overnight hikes to suite your mood and energy levels or challenging Cape Sandstone rock faces and peaks to extend your wits.
